| 05.11.2010 | NEWS! UPDATES! SALE! MMMMMM! SUMMER TOUR! We're baaaaack! After over a half year away from the road, we're returning, with a vengeance. Or something. We'll be hitting almost every area of the United States (plus a few spots in Canada) during our 6 week summer tour, entitled "The Ship of Fools Tour". Joining us on the road will be The Supervillains, Crime In Stereo, The Wonder Years, and Dan Potthast. We're recharged, and more excited about touring than we have been in a long, long time. As usual, we have to warn you all that many of these shows will indeed sell out, so stop on by our site to buy advance tickets (which are also cheaper than buying them at the door). Do it or don't, but if you don't, you're not allowed to whine when you can't get in. Well, you're allowed, it's just that we will ignore you. And possibly laugh at your expense. Yes, more than likely we will laugh at your expense. Buy your tickets by finding your city in the tour list on the right side of this page) ACOUSTIC SHOWS! So, Tomas, singer/songwriter of Streetlight, will be playing 2 solo acoustic shows in two tiny clubs during the summer tour, under the name Toh Kay. It's happening on June 25th in New York City at Joe's Pub and on July 14th in Los Angeles at The Hotel Cafe. Both shows are 21 and up and guaranteed to be less enjoyable if you remain sober. This whole solo acoustic thing may or may not ever happen again (depending almost entirely on how these shows go, ha!) so, once again, buy your tickets in advance, as both will likely sell out. For less information, head on over to www.tohkay.com For tickets to the NYC show, go here For tickets to the Los Angeles show, go here RISC STORE MEGA-SALE The RISC Store has been restocked and restaffed. We're back up and running, at full steam. To celebrate our new-found fully-functional-ness, we're having a one week sale, starting immediately. Everything, every piece of Streetlight Manifesto, BOTAR, etc merchandise is 20% OFF! Seriously. The store is here That is all for today, you are free to go about your day. Bye! |
| 03.29.2010 | Last Call For New York Hey guys. Just a quick note that the Long Island show will in fact sell out in the next few days, so unless you want to drive to Rhode Island, now's the time to buy tickets, foo. Not much else to report here, we're still waiting on summer tour dates. Any day now we'll be announcing more details (sorry! We're just as anxious as you are). |
| 03.16.2010 | Voila! It is with great pride that we announce the birth of our newest little bundle of joy. 99 Songs of Revolution: Volume 1 was born at precisely midnight, during the first moments of March 16th, 2010. Timing in at 32.9 minutes, end to end, with 11 tracks for your listening pleasure. Thanks for all your help and we hope for many more. Cheers! |
| 03.15.2010 | Gimme Dat Christian Side-Hug Regarding the Hoboken College show we're doing in April, the ticket buy link is located here. The student presale goes live on March 29th, and the general public presale goes live on April 5th. Please buy your tickets asap, as this will more than likely sell out. Stay tuned for more shows and tour dates coming soon. And we're not just talking to our friends on our own continent. |
| 03.11.2010 | DO NOT SUPPORT VICTORY RECORDS (UPDATED!!!!!!!) Hello there. Just a quick note from us: If you want to support Streetlight Manifesto by buying a CD, shirt, hoodie, poster, etc etc, PLEASE do not buy anything from Victory Records or their website. Use our online store or come out to a show and support the band by buying merch there. We cannot condone or agree with the actions or ethics of our record label, nor do we want to support them financially through revenue made under the guise of helping Streetlight. Hey douchebag lawyers: This is not libel or slander. We're just letting our fans know how best to support the band if they should choose to do so by buying stuff. That is all. As a bonus, let's play "GUESS THAT QUOTE"!!!1! Here it is: "I absolutely believe that allowing people to cherry-pick the tracks they want from each album cannibalizes full-length album sales and is ultimately detrimental to the artists who created the music… It is important for people to experience the entire album. Not just a track(s)." You probably guessed it, so we'll just go ahead and give you your prize: Another full, high quality mp3 from our new record! Apparently, Victory chose this as our first "single" for us, which we found out by seeing it iTunes. Awesome! Thanks guys!~ Here it is. |
| 03.09.2010 | Free Mp3 from 99SOR Head on over to Pentimento for an mp3 of "Hell" from the new Streetlight record. Also, there's a new CD/Shirt/Poster bundle over at The RISC Store. $18! Cheap! |
| 03.04.2010 | In The Afterlife... A little sample of what's coming your way in a few days, courtesy of the ewe toob. |
| 03.02.2010 | Or Seventeen... |
| 02.15.2010 | March 16th, 2010 That's the release date for Volume I of 99 Songs of Revolution. Finally! What does the artwork look like? Funny you should ask, because it's right here! For track listing and to preorder either the vinyl or the CD version, head on over to The RISC Store. It's been a long weekend. Hell it's been a long year. That's it for today, but we have tons more news regarding upcoming tours, more song samples, etc etc. Be back in a day or two. Seriously. No really this time. |
| 01.28.2010 | . |
| 12.04.2009 | Here, Hear! 1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6! If you can guess what songs samples 5 and 6 are, you can have Chris Thatcher. As in, you know, you will legally own him. Seriously. |
| 11.17.2009 | Still Alive, Still Kicking Hello there everyone. Let's jump straight into it, shall we? 1) 99 SOR. We're being buried with emails regarding the release date but we can't announce one because we don't know when it is. What we can say is this: some record labels (not naming names here, so it can't be "libel") are just plain horrendous. That's pretty much all we can say for now. Seriously though, it's a sad fact that the bullshit bands have to put up with from some labels isn't worth the benefits (ha!) of being on said labels. That being said, it looks like 99SOR: Volume One will be released on vinyl via the Pentimento Music Company long before it comes out on CD or digitally. Stay tuned for a release date for the vinyl. We'll also be posting clips from the record in the next few days, along with artwork, since it is in fact finished and just sitting around (you have no idea how frustrating it is). 2) People are also asking when we'll be hitting the road again. We have no tours planned as of this very minute but we are planning our 2010 now. More importantly, though, we will be heading into the studio soon (as is a particular electricity deficient collective..) and we don't plan on touring until we have a few records to release. 3) The Risc Store just got a bunch of new items, Streetlight and otherwise. 'Tis the season yada yada blah blah blah.. 4) During our downtime, our resident tenor sax genius will be giving lessons. Straight from the Conti's mouth: Jim Conti will be offering saxophone lessons along with music theory tutoring/instruction in the Montgomery County, Maryland/NW D.C. area. Individual instruction for all levels on alto, tenor, or baritone. Lessons can include classical and/or jazz and improvisational instruction. Anyone interested can contact him (serious inquiries please) at jim_conti@live.com for more information. Obviously we are very fond of our Jimmy, so no stalkers or creeps please. That is all, see you at the next update, with soundclips! |
| 09.25.2009 | New Jersey MEGA-SHOW (Plus 99 S.O.R. Listening Party) So, we're preparing for our last show for the next who-knows-how-long, in about a week, at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. To make this a special night, we've decided that we'll be playing all of our songs. All of 'em. Over the course of the show, we will be playing every single song from both of our records, Everything Goes Numb and Somewhere In the Between. So that we don't die onstage, we'll be taking a brief intermission in the middle, during which we'll be having a little listening party: our soundguy will be playing a few cuts from our soon to be released covers album (99 Songs Of Revolution: Volume I). Afterwards, we will be entering hibernation for the winter and hope to return sometime in mid 2010. That is all. See you on October 4th! |
| 09.14.2009 | Last Dance For Quite Some Time... NEWS! * THE LAST TOUR FOR A WHILE TOUR --- After almost 5 years of practically nonstop touring, we're taking a break! We've dedicated ourselves over the last half decade to touring relentlessly and thereby put our "real" lives on hold; that changes after our upcoming Northeast America/Canada tour, which runs from September 17 (next week!) until our hometown show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on October 4th. We've got some very cool things planned for this tour (see our back to back full-album shows in NYC), not the least of which will be a very special last show in NJ... We'll let you know in the coming week or two what we mean. After this tour, we will be taking a nice long break from touring. We have nothing planned until at least the summer of 2010, so if you've ever wanted to see us live, or want to see us live before mid 2010, come out to one of the upcoming shows. Many of them WILL sell out, so PLEASE buy your tickets in advance. When we return in 2010, we will simply not be touring as much as we have been in the last few years; we will still try our best to travel internationally, but we will be touring less in general. Don't get too upset though, since "less than usual" for us is probably more than most bands out there ;-) We just need some time to ourselves too, is all. We also have a ton of merch left over from Warped so we will be selling a bunch of it at discount prices on the tour. Whoop dee doo. That's the big news for now. See you at the shows! |
| 08.11.2009 | NEW MUSIC VIDEO! Hey there. Just posted our new music video for "Would You Be Impressed?" right HERE. This is an actual music video, not the live performance posted 2 days ago. The cheap bastards at our label wouldn't let us do a second video for SITB, so we funded this one ourselves (when the middle man doesn't do anything, what exactly is the point of the middle man?). Enjoy! |
| 08.09.2009 | Another Song Up On The YouTubes Here, watch this, get a partial lobotomy, then comment away! Whoever said humanity was doomed? |
| 08.03.2009 | Greetings From The Warped Tour! Last Tour Of The Decade Announcement! South American Tour Cancelled! So we've got the world's crappiest internet connection on this tour, so updating the site has been a nightmare, to say the least. Here's a run down of some new info: * The South American Tour has been cancelled for reasons out of our control. Apparently the swine flu is still wreaking havoc down there and it's greatly affecting the shows. We plan to reschedule for sometime in 2010. * The Last Tour Of The Decade! We just posted all the dates for our final tour of the first decade of the new millennium. Dramatic! We'll be hitting a bunch of spots on the east coast (and a few not on the coast) before we take a break from touring for a bit (you know what that means). Since we are doing two back to back shows in NYC, we decided to play our two records in their entirety, in order, on those two nights. On Sept 20, at the Highline Ballroom, we'll be playing through our first record, "Everything Goes Numb". The next day, at BB Kings, we'll be playing through "Somewhere In The Between" from start to finish. These shows will be our last for quite some time, so buy your tickets asap as many of them will sell out. Also, we'll be pulling out songs from our back catalog throughout the tour. Just please don't expect Mrs Butterworth. Seriously. * We have something else we're very excited to show you, but since we have the aforementioned worst internet connection on earth, we can't upload it until we get to a hotel or something. Stay tuned! |
| 05.21.2009 | Another Tune Up On YouTube Fearless Music has posted another one of our songs from our live performance up on YouTube, here. That is all. |
| 05.13.2009 | Fearless TV, Hot Off The Press Just posted on YouTube, one of the songs we played on Fearless TV, check it out here. This past weekend's show was pushed back a week due to NASCAR. Apparently, people watch cars driving in circles. No, seriously, I didn't just make that up. Anyway, our second song, the one that was supposedly more worthy of airtime than Miss Lewis's second song (no, I won't drop it, it's hilarious) will be airing this weekend. Unless there's a particularly exciting broadcast of cars driving aimlessly or men playing with balls or whatever you people consider entertainment nowadays. The show times are a date or two down on this page, I'm done copy pasting it, you do something for once. We, on the other hand, have a record we're hard at work pretending to finish. Vroom. |
| 05.12.2009 | Hey There, South America... Hey! Brazil! And another country or two on the same continent as Brazil that we can't announce just yet: Guess what? In September of this year we will be visiting you. Finally! We will be announcing the details of our first ever South American tour in the next few weeks. It'd be an understatement to say we are excited as hell. So do whatever it is you fine folks do to prepare for these kinds of things, because we're coming and nothing you can say will stop us. |
| 05.11.2009 | Let's See Those Douchebags Take It Down Now So a while back our video for "We Will Fall Together" was taken off of YouTube by the powers that be (ha) because of "Copyright Infringement". Or whatever, you can only imagine the real reason... Anyway, the good folks at HD Fest have put our vid, in a much higher resolution, up on their site, here. Go watch it again or something, while we prepare video number two ;-) |
| 05.08.2009 | LOL, Stick To Acting Juliette Well that's irony for you. Appears that we won the Fearless Music Weekly Poll Thing, and they're airing another one of our songs this weekend. The slow as molasses Streetlight media takeover has begun indeed! To find times for this weekend go here again. |
| 04.30.2009 | TV APPEARANCE! LEEDS! READING! Hey there. So we're going to be on TV this week. Like real, actual, television. Weird, I know. It's on Fox, presumably after this week's episode of "Ow My Balls" or the weekly Rehabilitation Match, I dunno. The show is called "Fearless Music" and it airs Sunday night at 1:30 AM on Fox 5 in NYC. Or Saturday. We were given conflicting information, and since we already know what we look like we're not that interested. But you should be, because we look totally different from how we normally look. Ok, that's a lie. We look exactly the same as we do at every show. Which is suspiciously similar to how we look when we roll out of bed or go to the DMV. But anyway, here is a list of when it airs in different cities. Then, you can all head to www.fearlessmusic.com and vote for us if you want to see another song on the show next week. But honestly, I hate when bands are telling everyone to vote for them for this or that on their site or wherever, it's kind of annoying (although I just went ahead and did it anyway). So vote or don't, life will go on either way. If anything, they should air the interview we did after we recorded a few songs in their studio. Awkward City! So, yeah, that's that. Also of interest to our friends and former overlords on the other side of the pond: we will in fact be playing the Lock Up Stage at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals, August 28th (Reading) and 30th (Leeds). My only complaint is that we have to sit through Kings of Leon (who the hell is that?) twice and Radiohead not even once, dammit. There's just no justice in the world. Tea time! |
| 04.03.2009 | Europa! Just about finishing our European tour, headed to the UK for the last two shows tomorrow. I'm sure some of you have noticed by now, but Matt, our trumpet player, was unable to come on this tour due to a personal matter. We had one week to find a temp and get him up to speed, so unfortunately we've had to stick to a certain set of songs for this tour. Sorry if you've been requesting songs that we can't play with our temp horn lineup. Just posted a few shows in the US in a few weeks. They're mostly college shows, with some clubs thrown in, but they will definitely be the last headliners before Warped this summer, at least on US soil. As for 99 Songs, sit tight a tiny bit longer. The record is out of our hands now, in terms of recording, so we're all waiting at this point. We'll be posting a track list on the site very soon. |
| 02.17.2009 | Post Tour Wrap Up So, we're home. For about a minute. This last tour was stupendous. As cliche as it might sound, you guys were awesome and thank you for that. We've done a good amount of touring in our time and man, that last one was something. Toronto, we're looking in your direction. Tucson (minus the douche). Austin! Literally every show was perfect. Sometimes a tour comes along to remind us, in case we've forgotten, just how lucky we are to be where we are, and this one was it. Now, moving on! Europe, get your baguettes or whatever ready, we're coming for you. If you don't speak English, learn the songs phonetically, you've got a job to do damn it. Can't wait to storm your shores and all that. For some reason our own record label hit us with a cease and desist via YouTube. It seems we were broadcasting copyrighted material (our own music video) on our own YouTube channel. Which is a No-No in douchebag-land. So our video was taken off of our channel forcibly. We'll have a new link up soon. Man, with "friends" like these... One day we'll write a book. Until then, well, you know... And yes, we saw the screencaps of the guy wearing the SM shirt on the cooking show on the Travel Channel, thanks for writing in, all of you. Good eyes! Hopefully next week we can announce a tour to a few countries we've never been to. Actually, a continent we've never been to. We're just waiting for the thumbs up to announce. See you then! |
| 02.11.2009 | Oh, Like You've Never Been Late Soooo, just a tidbit or two from our end: We will be making our TV debut on FOX sometime in the next few weeks. We recently taped a few songs at the Fearless TV studios for their show. I'm pretty sure it was the first time we ever played without an audience in front of us, but worry not, lyrics were forgotten and stuff was knocked over, just like at a real life Streetlight show. Then we spent a few minutes doing an awkward on camera interview that probably seemed hilarious at the time but will come across as, well, awkward when it airs. Good times. We'll keep you posted on when it will air so our parents can Tivo it and show everyone come the '09 holiday season. There's a 10% off everything sale going on at The Risc Store (including all SM merch of course) now. Add something to your cart and it will be deducted automatically. Lastly, regarding the 99 Songs of Revolution Project: we're wrapping up recording and mixing in the next few weeks. We'll have a track list up soon, and more info on its release is on the way. It will definitely be in stores (or somehow available for pirating) by the time Warped rolls around. Scouts honor. |
| 02.02.2009 | Catching Up Every-Tuesday-Updates are back in effect! At least until we run out of news again. So, here are a few news items from our neck of the woods: *Warped Tour! Yes, we are indeed playing the entire run. Every single day. This will be our first time on the tour, and the lineup is looking pretty awesome, definitely a throwback to earlier days when punk rock ruled the summer. We'll have the dates up in the next few weeks, or you can just go to warpedtour.com for the cities/dates. *Show Cancellation For reasons out of our control, the New Orleans / Tulane show has been cancelled. Sorry. * Europe! From March 12th to April 5th, we'll be headlining a European mainland tour, then wrapping it up with two UK dates. We're very excited to be hitting new territory this time, including Athens, Prague (konecne!) and Spain. *Last US Headlining Dates of 2009 The shows between today and February 14th will be the last headlining SM shows of 2009. After Warped this summer we'll be disappearing for a bit to work on new music and plan 2010. Many of the shows are selling out so, as usual, buy your tickets now if you want to see us this year for more than 30 minutes. OK, that's all for now. Come back next Tuesday for more news, including info on 99SOR |
| 11.30.2008 | We're back! (and gone again) Australia and Japan were, as we expected, mind-blowing. Hands down, our first foray into the land of the rising sun was the most interesting and unique touring experience of Streetlight's history. Thanks to everyone who extended their hospitality; we will be returning as soon as we can. We're in sunny England now, about to start our 2 week UK leg. The London show on the 13th has been sold out for months now, so we decided to add another London-area date. We'll be playing the Peel in Kingston on the 14th of December, so hurry and buy your tickets if you want to go, as it's a pretty small venue and will likely sell out as well. Lastly, we are heading out on the road this January with Reel Big Fish. Starting on Jan 1st in San Diego, we will be out with them for about 3 weeks. Stay tuned for the details as well as a couple of weeks worth of headlining dates immediately following the RBF tour, to make up for the places we miss with them. |
| 09.17.2008 | Not Much To Report It's a slow SM news week, nothing going on here but tour and studio preparations, so instead of loitering here, go ahead and watch this. Then rent/netflix/pirate the movie. You're welcome. |
| 09.12.2008 | Arizona Show Attention Arizona SM peoples: The Brickhouse is closing down, so the AZ show has been moved to Scottsdale (a couple miles away). All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the door, and if you haven't bought a ticket yet, the new link is up in the tour section. That is all. |
| 09.09.2008 | New Album(s) News Ok, technically it's not a new original record, but here it is: A few years ago, when BOTAR (Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution) released it's first (and so far only) record, there was a mention in the liner notes of a large project called "99 Songs of Revolution". This is a collection of 99 cover songs, spanning all kinds of genres, all kinds of artists. Now, a few years later, it's all going down. And here are the details. Some of them, at least. The 99 Songs of Revolution Project will consist of 8 full length records. Two from SM, two from BOTAR, and two each from two other SM related groups. Yes, this is indeed the record that Victory mistakingly posted as coming out in Oct of 08. Not sure how they got that date, but it was never even a possibility. The first SM record for 99SOR will be out in early 2009, simultaneously with another of the 8 CDs (no, not the BOTAR one). Victory will be putting out the CDs and mp3s and Pentimento will be releasing and distributing the vinyl. We are aware of our reputation to take forever to release records and miss our self imposed deadlines, so we are not giving anyone solid dates, not even our labels. Early 09 release, that's it. We are, though, working hard on it. The demos are all but done and we head into the studio to begin tracking in October. Our upcoming tour schedule, as you know, is borderline impossible/insane, so cut us some slack. This will be a nice way for us to get into the studio and put out some "new" music as well as tide you guys over until our next full length. It's been a project that's been on the back burner for too long, and it's time to do something about it. Stay tuned to this site as well as the Pentimento site for more info over the coming weeks. Also make sure to keep peeking in on our other sites, as we're in the middle of working on a few projects that have been dormant for way too long. |
| 09.04.2008 | Buffalo Show NOT Cancelled, etc Sorry for the confusion, but the Buffalo NY headline show is not cancelled. The show happened to fall on the same night as the Buffalo stop of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones reunion tour, so the shows were merged. Well, not really merged, so much as they added Streetlight to their bill (support from the SM tour won't be there). All purchased tickets will be refunded (so sorry, but this is out of our hands) and if you want to see SM in Buffalo, go ahead and buy a ticket to see the Bosstones (we'll be there, playing right before them). We'll put the ticket link up as soon as we get it, but be sure to buy your tickets asap, as this will most definitely sell out. Sorry for the confusion and if this causes any problems, but it is indeed for the best in the long run, and not for nothing, but playing with the Bosstones has been a dream of at least one or two Streetlighters for a long, long time. Also, The Fear Nuttin Band will be replacing HiFi Handgrenades on the Streetlight tour. See you at the shows! |
| 09.03.2008 | Hello Again Sorry we missed last week's update, juggling lots of things now before our upcoming tours (!) so things are hectic here at SMHQ. So, here's the most recent news: One of the most common requests we get via our site is from fans (of our band, or music in general) asking if they can get a photo pass to shoot us live. Now you can. Kind of. For all upcoming shows we will be allowing a small number of semi-pro or aspiring photogs to get in front of the barricades and onto the side of the stage to shoot their til their little heads explode. There are, of course, a few stipulations. Well, two: You must be at least 18 and you must have some sort of online portfolio (confirmable to be you, ie flickr etc) with decent photos on it (no noobs!). We will be accepting between 1 and 3 photogs per show. Write in to photog (at) streetlightmanifesto (dot) com with your full name, your age, your online portfolio, and your equipment list and if you hear back from us, you're in. If you don't hear from us (we get TONS of email, sorry!), please try again next time we're coming through your town. We figure this will be a nice way to foster up and coming photographers who normally don't get a chance to get up close at shows. Just be sure to get our good sides. Next up: HiFi Hand Grenades are off of the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 Tour, because, uhm, not really sure exactly why, but check their site for details. They just cancelled all of their upcoming tours. We were looking forward to playing with them nightly, but alas, it was not to be. Their replacement should be announced here in a day or three, as soon as we get confirmation. Lastly, we're going to make up for missing last week's update (by the way, some of you are just plain mean) by announcing some particularly interesting/big news right here and on the Pentimento Site next Tuesday. Remember, unless it comes from our site, it's probably misinformed (and embarrassingly so). Later! |
| 08.20.2008 | Tuesday, Wednesday, La Di Da So! A few things to mention: 1) Tomas will be guest DJ'ing Sirius Channel 29 (the Punk Rock Channel) sometime in September. It's been recorded but won't be airing for another month or so. He'll be playing some of his favorite punk rock tunes, commenting on them and in general sounding uncomfortable and awkward. Giant ego and solo career to follow. Hurrah. B) Thanks to all you non-Americano's who wrote in with more languages for our international welcome sites. They will be posted shortly. Link again. Which brings us to: III) We have a new European booking agent! Ian over at Hidden Talent Booking will be handling our upcoming overseas tour. We may even be planning a mainland European tour as we speak. Maybe. Maybe not. Oooh, mysterious! Four) So some of the ticket counts for the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 tour are in and, once again, we're warning you: Some/many of the shows will sell out. Some are on track for selling out freakishly in advance. If you live in the City of Angels, you should definitely buy your ticket soon. If you live in Omaha, you don't have to worry about a thing. Not regarding the show at least; you are free to worry about other things. Gas prices, for one. And Scientology. Definitely worry about Scientology. Creeps. |
| 08.12.2008 | Not Entirely SM Related, But Neat and Flattering Nonetheless So Alternative Press are running a feature in their upcoming issue (September, October, I have no idea, I never got why they date issues like 3 years ahead) regarding the.. well, here, the title says it all: "The Class of '98: A Look Back at 10 Albums That Shaped the Punk of Today". Lo and behold, guess which SM-related record happens to be one of the ten (and no, it has nothing to do with cigar smoking cats): That's right, Catch 22's Keasbey Nights, son! Not sure how deserving the record is of this title, but what the hell, chalk up another one for the underdog. Six kids had just graduated high school and were thrown into a NYC recording studio for 7 days to record and mix their first full length. For better or worse, Keasbey Nights was born. Now we just have to grow out our emo-do's, borrow our sisters pants, and do that "one guy screams, the other guy interrupts him with singing about daggers and bleeding eyes" thing thing and we can get on next months cover! Success awaits! |
| 08.05.2008 | Aw, You Wacky Foreigners! So it's no secret that we Streetlighters love, love, love traveling abroad. Between sleeping on strangers' tile floors in the dead of a Norwegian winter and the constant verbal abuse we endure for apparently single handedly electing a bona fide hillbilly (no, really, it was the seven broke musicians sleeping under your coffee table that pushed the vote in bobo's direction, thanks for asking), we just can't get enough of seeing the world and playing for as many people that sing along phonetically as possible. We seriously love it. From day one, we've used our opportunities to travel with Streetlight to the fullest. And as much as we love touring our home country, we like to look at the world as our home as well, and therefore we are trying to share our noises today with the introduction of Streetlight's international pages. The pages are our little greeting to people who may have heard of us but don't know our music. Just type www.streetlightmanifesto.com into your browser, then follow it with a forward slash and the two letter international code of your language. Then hit enter. Or, go here and select your language from the menu at the foot of the streetlight image. If your language isn't listed, why don't you do something about it, lazyface? Click on the English version (that's EN) and translate it, then send it in to us. And we will check it in a translation program, so no funny business. Languages we're still missing are Chinese, Croatian, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, and Swedish (but we'll take any language really). Get to work! The sites have some photos, a link to our first video and 9 full length mp3s (3 from each album). Yes, we know there are some kinks when viewed in Internet Explorer, we're working on them. Or, how about you just get a real browser? Just saying.. If you would like to help us get to more/your countries (instead of just writing us angrily demanding why we are not "coming in" your country (looking at you, frenchies ;-) please hop on your local countries music forums or music news sites and drop the language url on 'em, let them know there's free music to be had and hope for the best. We don't have much of anything by the way of official promotion behind us (that's a can of worms best left for another day) so we've always had to do everything ourselves and rely on the word of mouth of music loving individuals such as yourselves. And, in all seriousness, we thank you so much for your help from day one until today. That's it for today. Well, kinda: one more thing... At the risk of sounding sappy, we just want you all to know how excited we are to get back on the road. It's funny how much a part of our lives touring, playing music live and doing what we do in SM has become. We genuinely miss the shows and we cannot wait to get back onto the stage this October. We have many (hopefully) awesome things planned for the next year or so (at least), so see you at the shows! Hopefully only at the shows though, you guys are creepy! (Sorry, had to, was getting a little too cheesey for a minute there.) |
| 07.30.2008 | Tour Poster Artwork for 4OO7I3B9 Tour The artwork for the 4OO7I3B9 Tour is up on Pentimento's site. Check it out. If you live in Japan, Australia, the US or the UK and you don't come to a show, then the terrorists have finally won. And that's sad. |
| 07.29.2008 | Tuesday! Despite being promised a few months ago, we finally got around to uploading our music video for "We Will Fall Together" in HD to the intertubes. Join us in cursing the dreaded YouTube and embracing actual high quality video on the nets. Indeed! Click here to view the greatest pirate metaphor of 2007. That's it for now. Not necessarily it for all of the day, but for now. There may or may not be another posting later today. It all depends on whether or not someone gets their act together. Do it. Do it, now. Please. Also! The mysterious October 14th tour date has been confirmed. It'll be none other than the Sokol Underground, in Omaha, Nebraska. To everyone who wrote in kindly (and occasionally hysterically) to ask if we could make it to their town on the mystery date, we're very sorry, but as we mentioned earlier, we will be back on the road in the US and Canada in very early '09, to finish off what we started. Good night! |
| 07.21.2008 | Hi There, You. So we've been getting quite a few emails lately inquiring about Team Streetlight. As you may or may not have noticed, we're taking our time off from touring to get all of our ducks in a row or whatever it is people say when they mean get things organized and done so that they can get back to tour with a clear conscience because not too much time was wasted and also because some Streetlight fans (not pointing fingers, but that's only because this is the internet so we can't actually point fingers, but yeah, YOU) demand that we fill them in on every little detail of our sad, sad lives. Well, we're not going to do that. We'd rather pretend we have exciting, rock and roll type lives and leave you none the wiser. Or something. I digress. So today, news regarding Team Streetlight: It's awesome. Or at least it will be. Hopefully. We are working hard on it and hoping it'll bring a smile to your face. Or a smirk. A sneer, whatever, we're easy. It'll be a way for us to give back to you guys for all the years of support and love. (Cue sappy music) One thing I will mention regarding TS: At most shows, we are painfully reminded of our lackluster social lives by the emptiness of the Streetlight guest list (except when we play NJ, because our parents come out to see us, so our guest list looks packed until you notice most of the names are half the same as ours. Except Soprano, because his mom is awesome and she still buys tickets. How cool is that?) And pretty often at SM shows, if the show is sold out, one of us heads out to the line outside and gives out a few unused guest list spots to fans that can't get in. How generous, we know, we know. We figure if we're kind to others we won't get robbled again. Anyway, we got to thinking And, also, the ticket links for Phoenix and Buffalo are up. And finally: Dark Knight sucked! I'm that one guy! Christian Bale's Batman voice sounds like a constipated ogre. Get over it. Kilmer!!! And yes, once Team Streetlight launches, these late night, soon-to-be-realized-to-be-embarrassing posts will probably be moved over there. This space will be once again reserved for empty promises. And unicorns. |
| 07.17.2008 | Links! So most of the ticket-buy links are up for the US shows, on the tour page to the right of what you're reading right now. A few of the UK dates have popped up there as well, including the link for the London show at the Underworld, which is very likely to sell out, so please, do us both a favor and buy your tickets ahead of time. We want you at the show, maybe even more than you want to be at the show. We're lonely. Very, very lonely. :'-( |
| 07.15.2008 | Easy, Easy... My, my, aren't we all a little excitable today! With friends like these... Anyway, the PMC site is on track for launching today. Yes, today. As in Tuesday, the 15th of July, 2008. So relax, brother-man. Alternately, you could go outside. It's really a beautiful day. Really. It is, fatty. Go look. Not much news to report regarding SM today, but the PMC site will have pretty hefty SM news in a week or two. Let's just say something that was promised years ago is finally climbing the diving board ladder. Cannonball! Also, all the dates for the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 tour are up, save but one we're still waiting on. Ticketmaster should have ticket links up now; we will have those links up on our site in a few days if you're that lazy. Or your keyboard might be broken or whatever. But you're probably just lazy. We miss touring. That is all. |
| 07.08.2008 | First Official Tuesday News Posting OK, so to prevent confusion and to simplify things a bit here's the deal: We will try our best to post SM (and related) news primarily on Tuesdays. Throughout the week, randomly, we may post a blurb or two, but we'll try our best to reserve the bigger stuff for the day after Monday (or late, late Monday night. Since we like to sleep in. You know, since we're lazy, deadbeat no-good musicians and all. Don't judge us. Shut up.) This way you know you can check in once a week for the most recent news. Or whatever. So, today we have this: A) Direct support for Leg One of the 4OO7I3B9 tour will be provided by the HiFi Handgrenades (preceded by The Swellers and they by The AKA's) B) The Pentimento Music Company goes official on Tuesday, July 15th, with the launch of its website and more information about the shady, shady organization that is RISC. Ooooooohhhhh! C) Poking around the interwebs the other day, we came upon, nay, discovered, a new site that D) Speaking of which, remember to VOTE CAMACHO THIS NOVEMBER! Because, God damn it, IT'S INEVITABLE! E) Oh yeah, more dates posted... |
| 07.02.2008 | Click! New photos added to the, uhm, photos section. If you have any good quality (as in not your camera phone) shots of the sm boys, feel free to send in a link to them (via flickr, etc... do not send in the files please) and we will slap em up on this here site if we deem them awesome. That is all. |
| 07.01.2008 | Tour Dates Are A Go! Ok then, tour dates are up. Still a few TBA's in there, but they should be coming in in the next few days. Once again, this is just the first half of the US tour, hold back on the angry emails until later this year when we post the rest of the tour (on the road in Jan/Feb '09). And yes, we are intentionally leaving out your home town, because we hate you. Just you. It's all about avoiding you. |
| 07.01.2008 | 4 OUT OF 7 IN 3 BEFORE 9 TOUR! Well, that's what it's called, so get used to it. The 4 Out Of 7 In 3 Before 9 Tour starts in the US on October 8th in New York and ends on the 19th of October in California. Legs two and three see us in Australia for about a week, followed by about a week in Japan, both in November. Then, finally, December brings us about 2 weeks worth of UK shows, to round out the year. Tea time, em effers! Never before have we traversed so much of the earth so quickly, so cross your fingers, knock on your wood or whatever it is you do, so that we may somehow survive the whole damn thing. Stay tuned for details on the cities and venues (as we confirm them, we post them), more info on the tour, tour artwork, etc etc in the coming days. And to those of you who are about to write us about how much you hate our guts for skipping your city: chill winston, we're on the way. Come '09, we will be hitting the road again in the first few weeks of January to finish up the US states we will miss in October. Shortly after that, we plan on invading mainland Europe. By that point we figure we'll have covered every possible corner of the world... or will there be more? Fuck yes, indeed, there will be more. Also, Dan Potthast will be tailing us through Australia, Japan and the UK again. Does anyone know how to get rid of this guy? Please advise. |
| 06.29.2008 | Rumors Abound! Once again we have to dispel some silly rumors about Streetlight. We've been getting emails asking about the following, so here are the facts: 1) We are not releasing an album on October 28th this year. I know it comes from a "good source" but, as we've said in the past, the only source for accurate Streetlight info is right here. We're just as confused by this rumor as you guys (well, maybe a little less confused, but more on that later. As in "a few months from now" later) 2) We are not coming to the UK soon with "insert-band-name-here", nor are we playing this year's Leeds/Reading Festival. No idea how these rumors started, and we truly appreciate the enthusiasm from our tea-sipping friends, but once again, if you hear it from anywhere besides right here, it's probably not true. Also, in other news: We're terribly sorry we can't do more all ages shows in Australia this time around. It's not within our power to change this (and boy do you guys have some strange all-ages laws..). We feel fortunate to be coming down under at all, so quickly after the last time. Hopefully next time will see more all ages shows. Lastly, if you happen to live in Japan, the Japanese tour dates are coming through. Look to the right! If you're more interested in things like new tour dates, come back on Tuesday. Yes, tomorrow. Trust us. |
| 05.23.2008 | A Few Fourteen Hour Flights Later... Australia! Japan! We're coming over! It's true, this October and November we'll be headed to the other side of the world again, first to return to Oz (less than a year later!) for a headlining tour (full sets!), then, FINALLY, after years of touring everywhere else, we are headed over to Japan for the first time. Suffice it to say, we're ecstatic. Dates for the Australian shows are up now, with the Japanese details to follow. Next up on our to-do lists: Team Streetlight! |
| 05.19.2008 | Post Tour Wrap Up We've survived! Somehow we made it through what had proven to be our most difficult tour so far. The shows were awesome, amazing, the turnouts were huge, you guys were great, we had a blast playing live as usual and all that. But as you may have heard we were bombarded with one tragedy after another. First and foremost, Jim is healthy again, although two teeth lighter and one huge hospital bill heavier. Special thanks go out to Adam Jackson, Zox's sound guy, for filling in on the tenor sax for a few days while Jim was in the hospital. Our beloved motor home, our home on the road for the last two years finally died a quiet death somewhere in Indiana this tour as well. We spent the last two weeks in a rented minivan (soccer mom style!) and a rented uHaul truck. Classy, we know. Somehow we made it to all the shows and didn't have to cancel a single one. In between all this, we had some chipped teeth, keys locked inside vehicles, nightly equipment meltdowns, and countless other misfortunes. But as mentioned, luckily, the shows were amazing. Thanks to all who came out. In Chicago, we raffled off Tomas' acoustic guitar to one Shaun Rangel. We managed to raise $720 for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America via the guitar and another raffle the night before for one of Dan Potthast's paintings, and we here at Streetlight will be doubling that amount out of our pockets to make the total contribution to the organization $1440. We were going to do another charity event before the end of the tour, but all of our misfortunes piled up and we could barely limp past the finish line. Next time! And speaking of next time: We're already planning our next few months. Well, the next few we'll be laying low, preparing, maybe even locking ourselves in rooms with microphones, we'll see. But come fall, we will be back out in full force, touring our asses off. Coincidentally, we're sitting on some awesome, AWESOME information that will be announced here in a day or three regarding some more overseas touring, this time including a country that pretty much all of SM have been DYING to go to since day one... See you in a few days! |
| 05.02.2008 | Bamboozle! For those of you that will be attending Bamboozle tomorrow, we will be playing our set at the NowWhat.com stage (Main Stage B) at 2:30PM. Later in the day, Tomas will be doing an acoustic set on the Bamboozle TV Studio stage at 7:45PM. See you there! |
| 04.25.2008 | Hard Times, Ups and Downs Wow. In the 24 hours following our Pittsburgh show, fate took a wrong turn for us. En route to the next show in Detroit, our motor home broke down. And we mean really, really broke down. Just short of exploding, the RV was useless on the side of the road, and we're all lucky to have not died in the accident that we luckily prevented due to the empty early morning highway. We got towed and managed to find a van rental place in the middle of nowhere and got on our way to Detroit, with about 2 hours of sleep between the 10 of us. When we got to Detroit, Jim, our tenor saxist and main secondary vocalist, realized the facial infection he was nursing was too serious to ignore any longer. In Pensacola, FL a week back, a kid jumped up on stage and hit his mic, which in turn slammed Jim's sax into his mouth. Somehow, the wound got infected on his gum, which ballooned half his face up with swelling the size of a grapefruit. Despite a round of antibiotics, it got worse, to the point where half of his face was practically paralyzed by the time we reached Detroit. He immediately went to the hospital, where we learned it was serious (they put him on morphine immediately) and he had to stay for surgery to remove a tooth and drain the abscess. We had to leave him in the hospital for a few days and, unfortunately, continue the tour without him. Now anyone that's seen us live, especially recently, knows how important Jim is to our live show, both vocally and as a horn player. We had to redistribute his vocal/horn lines among the remaining members and pair down which songs we are able to play (we're doing a bit more off of Numb because of this). Point of the story is, please cross your fingers and say a prayer or two for Jim and a quick recovery. We're not sure when he'll be able to rejoin the tour, so until he does, we're a six-peice. |
| 04.22.2008 | Help Us Help Events, PART 1 The Help Us Help Foundation (Risc's fledgling charity wing) will be hosting two Streetlight related events on the 41 Days, 41 Nights of Tour: First, there will be a raffle at the May 6th Chicago show at the Metro for Tomas' acoustic mini guitar. The raffle tickets will cost one dollar at the merch table, and there will be no limit to how many tickets any individual can buy (the more you donate, the better your chances of winning are). Then, during Streetlight's set that night, the band will choose the winning ticket number and invite the winner onstage to receive the prize. As for the prize, Tomas says: "This is my baby. I bought the guitar specifically for the road right around our second tour, because it was small and portable and sounded great for its size. It's been through hell, and has been on every Streetlight tour until this last one and it's followed me on vacations, on trips, pretty much everywhere I've been for the last few years... It was left behind on the floor of our van when we were robbed (making it a perfect prize for a HUH benefit, since that robbery planted the seeds of HUH). Many of the songs on the new record (and a few other records) were written on this little guy, usually while driving or sitting backstage. I've dropped it a few times and there are parts that are patched up with duct tape, but as far as physical objects that are intertwined with Streetlight history, this guitar is responsible for bringing forth most of our new music. Although the sentimentalist in me hates to see it go, it's my honor to give it away in a way that helps a meaningful charity and brings some attention to a terrible disease." The entire band will autograph the guitar prior to the giveaway. All proceeds from the raffle will go to The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. The second event is yet to be announced. Stay tuned, as it will be up in a few days. Thanks. |
| 04.12.2008 | Ta-Daa! Hello and welcome to our brand new home on the web! We're still moving in so please be patient as we add more and more content and information to our site. If you have any questions about the site, any problems with how it works, etc, please let us know, as it is still a work in progress. We're currently on the road on the 41 Days & 41 Nights of Tour with Zox and Dan Potthast. Also making appearances on select dates will be Rick Johnson, The Johnstones, The Supervillains and somehow we were able to pull the legendary MU330 out of semi-hibernation for the last two shows of the run, which should be amazing for all in attendance. Despite going out on the road every summer for the last few years, we will be taking some time off from touring after this one, so if you want to see Streetlight live any time before late 2008, this tour is the one to go to. See you at the shows! Also, if you happen to be a Streetlight fan from the great country of Japan, or if you speak Japanese, please email us. We could use your help.. Check back often, as new stuff will be popping up all the time now, and news will be more frequent. Seriously. |
